HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A suspect is in custody after leading Harris County Constable Precinct 3 deputies on a chase early Tuesday morning.
According to Jill Harrison with Pct. 3, it all started when a deputy saw a vehicle going slowly with its hazard lights on along Highway 90. When the deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly took off.
Harrison said the suspect was driving recklessly, even going the wrong way at high speeds.
SkyEye13 was over the brief chase just after 6 a.m. Deputies could be seen trying to stop a dark-colored vehicle along the highway before it came to an end near Purple Sage Road.
At one point, the chase suspect, trying to get away from deputies, turned into the parking lot of Purple Sage Elementary School before getting back out on the roadway, slowing down, and getting out of the car, which continued to roll forward slowly.
That's when one officer deployed a Taser and the suspect went to the ground, and he was taken into custody.
Pct. 3 said the chase lasted nearly 40 miles.
Inside the suspect's car, deputies said they found several open beer containers. No one else appeared to be inside the vehicle.
The suspect is facing an evading charge along with a DWI pending further investigation, Harrison added.
